Fall Optimist Regatta
November 13-14,
2010
Ventura, California
Just as Fall is a time of transition,
so too was the Ventura Yacht Club Fall Optimist
Regatta-the second of five regattas that
make up the annual "SoCal Series".
With some of Southern California's elite-level
Opti sailors either aged out or noticeably
absent, an opportunity for new talent to
shine was borne under sunny autumn skies
against the backdrop of Anacapa and Santa
Cruz islands. Over 40 young sailors from
Santa Barbara to San Pedro came together
in Ventura for two-days of exciting racing
showcasing both the fleet's next generation
of young rock stars and many for whom this
was their first competitive sailing experience.

selected US Sailing Development Team
Courtesy of US Sailing
January 11, 2010 (Portsmouth, R.I.) - Forty-eight
talented athletes have been named to the 2010 US Sailing Development
Team (USSDT), a new, youth pipeline team supported by US SAILING's
Olympic Sailing Committee (OSC). The USSDT was created to
help young athletes, who have been identified as future Olympic
prospects, acquire the skills necessary to launch successful
campaigns and compete at the Olympic level.
In addition to receiving elite-level coaching, guidance and
mentoring, the members will benefit from joint training with
US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics (USSTAG) members and other top
young sailors from across the United States. The OSC will
also support these athletes with shipping and logistical assistance
and advice, as well as access to the OSC's Performance Enhancement
Team of physical therapists, trainers and nutritionists.
Formerly known as the US Sailing Team - U18 and US Sailing
Team - U23, the USSDT is comprised of talented, up-and-coming
sailors, aged 13 years or older as of January 1, 2010, who
have shown a strong work ethic, willingness to work within
a team, and promising results at international events and
high-level domestic events. The OSC selected team members
from a pool of sailing resumes and proposed training plans
