On August 30th, nine Santa Barbara Youth Foundation sailors made the trip down to Long Beach to compete in the District 25 Championships.

Held out of Alamitos Bay Yacht Club, this end of summer regatta featured ten fleets ranging from the high speed Formula 18 Catamarans, to the Laser Radial.

The conditions were challenging, with wind speed ranging from 5-8 knots. The race committee did an amazing job and was able to get seven races off.

Participants in the Radial fleet included Hunter Yegendorf, Briggs Deardorff, Kieron Kavanagh, Carly Shevitz, Hanna Vincent, Tucker Atterbury, Sky Adams (finishing seventh), and me (Oliver Toole) taking the top spot. Garret Tessman stepped up to the Laser Full and fought it out in the men's fleet.

I think everyone will agree that we had fun and learned a lot. With a record number of Youth Foundation sailors competing in regattas this summer, things are looking good for junior sailing in Santa Barbara!
