Level One Instructor Course

SBYC and US Sailing will host a Level 1 Instructor Training course June 12 through 15, 2008. This certification is required for SBYF coaches and highly recommended for anyone who works or volunteers coaching sailing. Our class will be placed on US Sailing’s web calendar on Monday, May 19, and you can use their website (see below) to register. If you are already signed up for another Level 1 class, please contact Dana Jones for instructions on how to switch to the local event.

Components of this course include:

  • Teaching from and using a Safety Boat.
  • Use of land and on-the-water drills.
  • Sports psychology and physiology
  • Lesson Planning
  • Classroom teaching techniques for eye-hand coordination skills
  • Risk management and other legal issues
  • Safety considerations
  • Rainy day activities

Pre requisites for this class include:

  1. Must be 16 years of age.
  2. Completion of NASBLA ‘Safe Boating’ online course: http://www.nasbla.org/courseListing.php?filter=onlyinternet. This certificate must be presented at the beginning of the class.
  3. Adult and Child First Aid and CPR Certification: A course will be held at SBYC, Date TBD (but before the Level 1 course)
